Airfield Estate has fantastic ornamental gardens for you to wander through and take in the romance and elegance of the walled garden and woodland charm of the tea garden.

Keep an eye out for the ornamental farmstead plants of artichoke, oregano and lavender in the sunken garden at the entrance to the estate.

The Greenhouse Garden is the perfect resting point to stop to sit in the garden and look closer at the planting before exploring the New Food Gardens where we share our passion and commitment to the production and consumption of local, seasonal home grown food.

This garden supplies fresh fruit and vegetables for the Overends Restaurant and our boundary hedges provide plenty of food and shelter for birds and wildlife as well.

Did you know the team in Overends Kitchen create a lot of their own drinks in house? They take what is available from the gardens and use it to flavour the house kombucha. #glas

Our young growers class allows kids to explore the garden and get to grips with planting, weeding and harvesting their own crops.

It's a great way to help them learn about their food and where it comes from. Our next Young Growers class is taking place on 23rd June.

Chef Shane Smith's second recipe from Woolapalooza is the Courgette Goats Cheese Muffins. A handy savoury snack which you can pop into lunch boxes, have as a tasty treat or however you please!

200g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon bread soda
Pinch ground cumin
1 medium egg
140g grated raw courgette
100g Irish goats cheese
150ml buttermilk
40ml rapeseed oil
Pinch of salt and pepper.

Place all of the above ingredients except the goats cheese into a medium mixing bowl and combine until everything is mixed,
Add the crumbled goats cheese and gently mix as not to break it up too much.
Divide this muffin batter between 8 cupcake / muffin paper cases and place in the centre of a preheated oven and bake at 180C for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Primary and secondary schools are invited to attend a day packed with fun talks, demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences that will promote food literacy, sustainability, horticulture, biodiversity and agriculture.

Teachers are now invited to register their interest via our website.
